DAIRYMAN RUSSELL WINS SCHOLARSHIP TO PRESTIGIOUS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
Posted 10 June 2002
A WORCESTER lad with ambitions of running his own dairy herd has won an Entrance Scholarship to Harper Adams University College, in Shropshire.
Russell Worrall, of Saintbury, Worcs, is a keen dairyman who first milked his father's cows when he was just seven years old. Currently studying for a National Diploma of Agriculture at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell, Russell has built up a wealth of agricultural experience with dairy and beef cattle and with sheep. He has also worked as contractor, operating farm machinery.
Russell will join Harper Adams in September to study for an HND in Dairy Herd Management. The course is run jointly with Reaseheath College, Nantwich.
Richard Jopling, Head of Liaison at the University College, said: “The selection panel was very impressed with Russell’s application, particularly taking into account his enthusiasm and determination to work within the dairy sector.
“He is a gregarious chap, much involved with his local young farmers club and certain to bring that commitment to Students' Union activities. He is keen to participate fully in all aspects of University College life and is just the sort of able and committed student who will do well at Harper Adams.”
Harper Adams University College is the UK’s largest, specialist centre of Higher Education for the land and food based industries. It currently has around 1800 students on undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has an international reputation for the quality of its courses, research and graduates.
